In Case You Were Looking for the “Creepy” Part of the New Facebook Layout

So I honestly wasn’t all that impressed with the most recent facebook layout change. The only thing they did that added any non-trivial value to my [personal] user experience was the photos - AJAX loading as you scroll down with Google Reader-like speed, and tooltip captions. This worsened some of the already present AJAX bugs with notifications, but the point is that there wasn’t anything that drastically changed the way the information was presented.

But wait a minute, facebook rushed and given us an unrefined beta at first like they often do and now the rest of the features are creeping (no pun) in. Notice how now anyone who can see your wall can see what you’ve written on anyone else’s wall. Before, all they could see was a story that said you wrote on someone’s wall. That’s a bit of a game-changer. Obviously I expect anything I write on someone’s wall to be somewhat public, but I think a lot of people operate under the idea that only mutual friends can eavesdrop. If you’re friends with only one person then you only see half the conversation - or none, depending whose wall it stays on.
